Motorhome

A Motorhome is defined as a motor vehicle built on a truck or bus chasis and designed to serve as a self-contained living quarters for recreational travel. Motorhomes are built to be fully self contained, so you can go into camping areas and still have all the creature comforts like toilet and shower that you would expect . Think of it like a small apartment.

Motorhomes come in a lot of different sizes, shapes and layouts

Motorhomes also come in 3 classes - Class A, Class C and Class B. the difference can be simply seen by the physical appearance. Class A motorhomes look like a bus with a flat roof and a flat vertical front with large windows. In contract the Class C has a truck cab look to the front with a "house" parked on the tray.

Class A
Class A motorhomes are commonly converted buses and coaches. They range in size from 7m, which are hard to find, to up to the more common 24m coach conversion. Common models of buses that are converted are the Hino Rainbow and Toyota Coaster.

Class A motorhomes come with all the luxuries of home. A kitchen, bathroom with shower and often even a separate bedroom in the back depending on the floor plan. Heating and air conditioning, hot and cold running water, a dinette or living room area with a couch and recliners, closets, and an entertainment center. It's all possible. Many Class A motorhomes are far more luxurious than most homes!

This type of motorhome and are ideal for all-round family travel. AS these are custom conversions, you will find these from companies like First Choice Motorhomes.

Class C
Class C motorhomes are converted flatbed smaller trucks with an over-cab bed, plus a rear bedroom. This is the type of motorhome that you will find from most hire companies. Models include Mitsubishi Canto, Fiat Ducato and Mercedes Benz Sprinter but more are available. They are lighter in weight, ranging from 4.5 tonne to 7 tonne and generally run from just under 6 to 13 m in length.

Like the Class A, Class C motorhomes have all the conveniences of home including kitchen, bathroom, dinette, heating, A/C, and nowdays also entertainment features too. Because of the overcab bed, Class C motorhomes can sleep more than a comparable Class A motorhome, up to 10 people.

Class B
A Class B motorhome is also referred to as a van conversion, which perhaps describes it more aptly. However, most are equipped with a raised roof, and sometimes dropped floors providing full stand-up room. These motorhomes look like pop-top campervans and are self-contained but cramped compared to their big brothers.

The advantage of a Class B motorhome is handling, and size if you don't happen to need the interior room. They are often advertised to sleep more than what is deemed comfortable by most people's standards, but can work well for very small families who don't mind the close quarters, or ideally, for couples who don't want the upkeep of a large motorhome. The Class B motorhome can also be used as a second car.
